Introduction to Mindfulness:
This is a 4-week course of an hour each week to gently familiarise yourself with mindfulness techniques and attitudes
I will give you tools, tips and encouragement to bring both ‘formal’ and ‘informal’ mindfulness into your everyday life. We will practice meditations of 1 to 30 minutes’ length and will explore mindfulness of eating, movement and walking.
This is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in mindfulness in the 2-hour weekly sessions and will help you to establish your own practice, or give it a boost, if you already practice.
The sessions are 2-hours long and take place on a week night with 6 hours on one Saturday or Sunday in week 6. There will be 4 to 12 people in the group.
Developed from the MBSR and MBCT work of Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn and Dr Mark Williams, respectively, the Mindfulness Now programme will teach you many meditation and mindfulness techniques including:
Sitting and standing meditations
3 minute ‘hourglass’ meditation
Mindfulness of movement
Mindfulness of breathing - body - sounds - thoughts and feelings - choiceless awareness
You will be encouraged to reflect on your practice and there will be plenty of opportunity to discuss your development with the group.
While the sessions will incorporate some gentle stretching and movement, these can always be adapted for those with difficulties or restrictions in movement.
